High Fructose Corn Syrup Antitrust Litigation (MDL 108)

Soon after the report from a court-appointed economic expert was received and a trial date set, the remaining parties settled this matter. Plaintiffs, a consolidated class of purchasers of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) who alleged that the five defendant manufacturers engaged in a conspiracy which raised the price of HFCS, will receive a total of $531 million including $400 million from Archer Daniels Midland and $100 million from A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. The total dollar amount represents one of the top five largest antitrust class action settlements ever achieved in the U.S. Jeff Leitzinger was scheduled to be plaintiffs’ damages expert at trial. Dr. Leitzinger submitted seven expert reports and gave three days of deposition testimony over the seven-year life of the lawsuit.
