Class Certification

Class certification, also referred to as class actions in litigation, refers to a process in which a lawsuit is brought by one or more individuals with the purpose of certifying a class to represent a larger group of individuals that have similar legal claims. Class certification can also apply to businesses where one or more businesses come forth trying to certify a collective group of companies who all suffered the same or similar harm. Class certification cases can span multiple legal areas including antitrust, consumer protection, securities, employment, environmental, product liability, data breach and privacy, and civil rights.

Regardless of the type of class certification case, it can be a good idea to engage an expert economist who can assess the numerosity, commonality, typicality, and/or adequacy of the proposed class. Furthermore, an expert economist can assess the impact and any harm done to the class. Econ One’s experts have worked on numerous class certification cases across a wide variety of industries. Clients often turn to Econ One experts for their precision in quantifying damages and providing comprehensive expert reports and expert testimony before courts and regulatory agencies on class certification matters.

Our experts have worked on both direct and indirect purchaser class certification cases and have experience at all phases including the merits/liability and damages. Econ One’s deep understanding of economic theory paired with the capability to analyze large amounts of data results in Econ One being a trusted partner in navigating the complexities of class certification.
