Econ One’s Jean-Marie van der Elst to Speak on Enforcing Arbitration Awards Webinar
Econ One Managing Director Jean-Marie van der Elst will participate as a featured speaker in the final session of the webinar series, International Arbitration Across Africa & the Middle East, hosted by the SOAS Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre in collaboration with AM Attorney.
The session, “From Contract to Cash: Enforcing Arbitration Awards,” will take place on 20 July 2026 and will examine the practical realities of enforcing international arbitral awards, with a particular focus on Africa and the Middle East.
Panelists will discuss enforcement strategies across different legal systems, the relationship between the seat of arbitration and the place of enforcement, common challenges such as insolvency and asset structuring, cross-border asset recovery, litigation funding, and enforcement considerations involving OHADA jurisdictions.
Jean-Marie will join an accomplished panel of international arbitration practitioners and experts, including Dr. Mamadou Koné, Secretary-General of the Court of Arbitration of the CCJA (OHADA), Dr. Amira Mahmoud, and Tariq Khan. The discussion will be moderated by Diane Okoko, FCIArb.
