EEOC vs. BP Amoco

Dr. Steward worked with the EEOC on its analysis of failure-to-hire allegations in a multi-plaintiff age discrimination lawsuit. We constructed an employee database from thousands of hard-copy hiring records and related files. At each phase of the multi-phase hiring process, we used the Fisher Exact Test to estimate the random chance probability of observing the company’s actual hiring age distribution. Dr. Steward’s analysis revealed that while the probability of observing the age distribution in the early phase of the hiring process was quite high, the random chance probability of observing the company’s age distribution in the final phase was quite small.
